Federal Release Destinations
No dedicated BOP prison was verified in Carlisle County. The Federal Bureau of Prisons belongs in the county facility map only as a system that can hold a person after a federal conviction or documented transfer. A local arrest, state charge, or disappearance from a county roster does not establish federal custody.
Leaving BOP custody can mean release to the community, placement under federal supervised release, movement to another sovereign, immigration custody, or another authorized placement. The locator’s release date describes BOP custody. It does not disclose every later destination. Federal supervised release is administered through the federal courts and U.S. Probation system, not Kentucky Probation and Parole.
| BOP result | What it supports | Required follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Named federal facility | The BOP location displayed | Check the access date and person identifier |
| Released with date | BOP custody ended by that displayed date | Read the federal docket and check later custody |
| Not in BOP custody | The person is not currently shown in BOP custody | Check USMS, court, state, local, or ICE sources as supported |
| No match | No result under the submitted terms | Try identifiers and verify which federal custodian applies |
Confirm a Federal Release
The official BOP Inmate Locator supports two main search routes. Use a BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number when one is known. Otherwise search by name and narrow with the available age, race, and sex fields. Compare the result to the federal case. Similar names are not enough.
- Identify a federal case, hold, judgment, or BOP number before assuming federal custody.
- Search the locator by the strongest available identifier.
- For a name result, compare age and other displayed identity data.
- Record the exact custody wording, facility or release date, identifier, and access date.
- Open the correct federal docket to read the judgment and later orders.
- Follow any documented transfer or supervision term to the responsible agency.
The PACER federal court system supplies the judgment, sentence, supervised-release term, and later case orders. A locator result and docket should be read together. BOP reports custody status; the court explains the legal basis. For broader Carlisle County custody checks, return to the released-inmate search.
BOP Locator Release Screen
The official BOP locator is the source shown below. It allows an identifier search or a biographical search and can return released-result wording. Use the federal number whenever possible because a name can match more than one person.

The screen is an entry point, not proof of a Carlisle County connection. Link the result to a federal judgment, federal hold, or other official record. Preserve the register number and exact result wording rather than describing any absent local roster entry as a federal release.
Federal Release Record Sources
A complete federal release answer can require more than the public locator. The BOP record supplies the federal custody status and release information it displays. The federal court docket supplies the judgment, sentence, and supervised-release conditions. If the person was not yet designated to a BOP institution, U.S. Marshals Service custody may be the correct path.
- BOP release
- The end of the custody segment administered by the Bureau of Prisons.
- Supervised release
- A court-imposed federal supervision term that generally follows incarceration and is distinct from Kentucky parole.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that may cause another agency to take custody when one segment ends.
- Designation
- BOP assignment of a sentenced person to a federal institution or placement.
When requesting an official record, supply the full name, BOP register number, birth information as appropriate, and the date range. Ask for the existing release or transfer fields rather than a new narrative. For the legal outcome, retrieve the judgment and any later revocation, modification, or release orders from the correct district court.
USMS Before BOP Custody
The U.S. Marshals Service prisoner system commonly handles federal pretrial prisoners and moves sentenced prisoners. A federal defendant can be held in a contract county jail and may not yet appear as a sentenced BOP prisoner. Therefore, no BOP result does not establish release.
If a Carlisle or receiving-jail record says “USMS,” federal hold, or federal transfer, identify the federal district and case number. The federal docket can show detention orders, plea or trial disposition, judgment, and commitment. The responsible USMS district can address current custody routing, subject to disclosure limits. A county roster may simply remove the person after transfer.
This is a different track from the sheriff’s documented historical transport of local prisoners to McCracken County Jail. A Carlisle arrest record can identify the first movement, while a federal court or USMS record must support any later federal claim. Do not infer the federal system from the fact that a person is absent locally.
ICE After Federal Release
Immigration custody is a separate civil federal system. If a BOP, jail, or court record documents an ICE hold or transfer, the ICE Online Detainee Locator is the next public route. Search by A-number and country of birth or by the supported biographical fields. Do not infer immigration custody from a person’s name, birthplace, language, or a missing BOP result.
A transfer to ICE is not community release. Locator delays, spelling differences, short-term custody, transfers, and age limits may affect results. The ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations information channel is the fallback when a supported search does not resolve. No dedicated ICE detention center was verified in Carlisle County.
The system boundary matters. BOP handles federal prison sentences. USMS can handle federal pretrial and transfer custody. ICE handles civil immigration detention. A person can move between these systems, but each claim requires a record naming that agency.
Carlisle Federal Release Proof
A Carlisle County case is usually a Kentucky state or local matter unless a federal record says otherwise. Start with the arresting agency, court number, booking location, or federal identifier. If the Carlisle sheriff transported the person to a receiving jail, obtain that jail’s release disposition. Follow BOP only when the field names federal authority or when a federal docket confirms the case.
Three records can document three distinct events. The local jail can show release to USMS. The federal docket can show detention and sentence. BOP can later show a released date. None should be rewritten as though it alone covers the whole custody history. Keep each event, date, and custodian separate.
For a state sentence, use KOOL and KDOC instead. For a federal sentence, use BOP and PACER. For immigration detention, use ICE only when supported. This source-first method prevents a common error: calling a transfer “released” because the person disappeared from the prior roster.
Federal Dates and Supervision
A BOP release date is not the same as a Kentucky projected release field or a parole eligibility date. The federal judgment and BOP computation control the federal sentence. Later court orders may alter the sentence or supervision. Quote the locator language exactly and add the date checked.
Federal supervised release is imposed by the sentencing court and generally follows prison. It is not federal parole, and it is not administered by Kentucky Probation and Parole District 1. The docket can show the term and later action, while public access to operational supervision details may be limited. If a court revokes supervised release, the new judgment or order is the correct source.
For a past event, a durable statement should cite the BOP result and the matching docket. If another agency then assumed custody, cite that transfer record as well. This produces a custody sequence instead of an unsupported claim about where the person went.
When BOP Shows No Match
Try the known federal identifiers first, then reasonable name variations. Confirm that the person was actually sentenced to BOP custody rather than held pretrial by USMS or convicted only in Kentucky court. An error in spelling, age data, or number entry can also defeat a search.
If federal authority is documented but BOP remains blank, review PACER and contact the appropriate federal custodian. If there is no federal record, return to the actual county jail, Kentucky VINE, KOOL, or court file. No-result evidence is narrow. It means the submitted search did not produce a BOP match, not that release occurred and not that the person was never held elsewhere.
